A Quick Guide to Summer Skin Care

We love the summer! Our skin craves for the warm hot sun, the sand between our toes, the crashing waves and idly staring at the unending horizon. To fully enjoy this season, we need to remind ourselves that skin care needs to adapt to the changing climate and activities. Here's some recommendations to maintain a healthy skin all throughout this splendid season.

  • Limit sun exposure (avoid the sun from 10 am to 3 pm);
  • Stay under the shade as much as possible;
  • Wear protective clothing (sunglasses, long sleeves, hats, etc.);
  • Monitor moles and dark spots - have a routine consultation with your dermatologist about once a year;
  • Evenly slap on some sunscreen all year round, especially on the exposed parts of the skin.
To get your healthy daily dose of Vitamin D, we recommend that:

  • You need only spend 10-15 mins in the sun to get enough Vitamin D; and/or
  • Get it from food/diet.
Eternal beauty requires proper care. Here's how to apply a sunscreen effectively to minimize sun damage:

  • Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which means it protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. Also, the higher the sun protection factor or SPF, the better. One with at least SPF 30 should do. Don't forget yout lips too! Use lip balms with a high with SPF and broad-spectrum protection.
  • Slather it on evenly before going outside or hitting the sea/pool. 
  • Allow 15 mins for the skin to absorb the sunscreen thoroughly.
  • Reapply after two hours of basking in the sun or sooner after swimming (80 mins after jumping out of the water).
