Elastin is a protein and the main component of elastic fibers that keeps skin elastic, tight, firm and flexible. It's what keeps our skin from wrinkling, sagging and scarring.

Unfortunately, our adult body doesn't regenerate elastic fibers. It depletes through time naturally (biological aging) and extrinsically (external damage). Our skin's elastic fibers also degenerate through wound healing, scarring and photoaging.

"Elastic fibers are formed early in life and are rarely replenished in adulthood. Efforts to stimulate elastin production have been limited, but pre-clinical studies demonstrate potential opportunities (Baumann, et. al, 2021)."
