Top Hair Frizz Fighters For Fall!

Top Hair Frizz Fighters For Fall!

Posted By Kate

After a sensational, extended summer in on the west coast, the past couple of days have reminded some that they live in a very humid, damp, and rainy climate!

For those whom live in the Pacific Northwest, this is but a taste of what's to come between late October through to early March, of course, so along with trusty umbrellas, waterproof footwear, and rain resistant jackets, it's time to invest in hair products to help defeat the humidity and rain! The following techniques and products will help thwart seasonal frizzies!

Wash Your Hair Every Other Day

If you can tolerate skipping the shampoo, perhaps wash your hair every three days! Natural oils from the scalp are excellent frizz fighters, and also make the hair more manageable to style. Instead, alternate your liquid for a dry shampoo, to refresh stale hair, while absorbing excess oil production. Some of our favourites at Eternal: Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo, locally-owned Principessa Beauty Notte Breeze Dry Shampoo, and One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder (released as a limited edition, summer product, but is staying among their product line-up).

Deep Condition Your Tresses

Frizz happens when porous, dry hair sucks up moisture from the surrounding environment, causing the hair shaft to expand. With the humidex and amount of rain in Vancouver, there's a LOT of moisture for your hair to suck up! Using a heavy coat of deep conditioner, every time you shampoo, will help to coat the hair shaft, making it less resistant to moisture in the air. Terax Crema Ultra Moisturizing Daily Conditioner doubles as a daily and deep conditioning hair masque, and has long been a cult beauty favourite for a reason: it works! We also love Gloss Moderne High-Gloss Masque! If your hair happens to be fine-textured, we suggest using a leave-in, spray-on conditioner such as Milkshake's Hair Leave-In Conditioner — light textured, and will leave your hair smelling outragously delicious! MMM!

Rubbing your wet hair agressively will roughen-up the cuticle, and as a result, the cuticle will not lay flat. Best to SQUEEZE (not rub) out excess water, or use a microfiber towel to further absorb excess water. Microfiber cloths and towels are easy to find in any housewares section of drugstores or hardware stores. (Hey, they're marketed to dry dishes as well as do other tasks around the house, and therefore, they also work on wet hair!) Once the excess water has been absorbed, use a wide-toothed comb to gently release tangles, and comb through aforementioned leave-in conditioner, or ...

Use a Hair Protectant Spray
Styling with heat can cause damage to hair, which can then lead to fried, frizzy looking tresses. There are a lot of great leave-in treatments available to guard against heat styling tools: Redken Smooth Lock Heat Glide, organic Yarok Feed Your Ends Leave-In Conditioner and Heat Protectant are amazing, as is Coolway True Smooth Spray which may be used with any heat styling appliance, but works wonders with (award winning) Coolway's Low Heat Smoothing System and Go PRO IONIC Dryer Kit. BTW: Ionic dryers DO make a difference! They reduce frizz by compressing the cuticle, locking out puff-inducing moisture!

Smooth Flyaways With a Shine Serum or Pomade

"A little dab'll do 'ya!"

The silicone content of a shine serum or pomade (just a little bit!), when rubbed together between the hands, and lightly smoothed over tresses, will help further counteract the effects of drizzle, ensuring that the cuticle stays smooth. Moroccanoil Frizz Control, Gloss Moderne High-Gloss Serum, and Layrite Super Hold Pomade will all smooth and prevent flyaways, without weighing down your hair!

Lock-In Your Style

A quick mist or spritz of a humidity resistant hairspray will help to keep your smooth tresses under control: Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hair Spray and Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray (Strong Hold) successfully repel humidity, without leaving hair stiff, crunchy, or helmet-like.

Armed with these tips and tools, you'll be the smoothest of the smooth, leaving your friends wondering how you manage to do so during soggy days! Tell `em that your friends at eSkinStore helped you out with a bit of rainy day advice ;)
