Skincare 101

Building the right skincare routine is the best investment you can do for your own skin. If you already know your skin type but still not sure how to take care of it, you are on the right page as we give you some quick tips on what to do to help you address your current skin concerns and prevent having skin woes in the future.

If you have combination skin:

You may notice that your t-zone is noticeably oily while the other areas of your face is quite dry. This means that your skin falls under the combination type. Below tips can balance the condition of your skin.

Unclog pores: Having this skin type makes your pores look visibly open which makes your t-zone area oily. It is best to use a toner with salicylic acid to minimize the appearance of large pores and reduce oiliness.

Add an essence: To make the other areas less dry and help your skincare essentials penetrate deeply to your skin, you may sweep a facial essence using a cotton pad before applying a moisturizer.

Apply a Mask: Pamper your facial skin using a clay mask which contains glycerin that can reduce excess oil and soothe dryness. A wash-off mask with glycolic or lactic acid formula can also help you brighten dull-looking areas.

Blend lemon juice with honey and apply it on your face for 20 minutes. This natural remedy is effective in removing oil from the skin and reducing age spots.

If you have sensitive skin:

Getting easily irritated and having breakouts are not new to your skin. Many times you get to experience redness and  inflammation which sun exposure often exacerbates. In short, your skin is really prone to irritation and itching as a subjective sensation when using new skin care products or even cosmetics. Treat your delicate skin with extra TLC.

Calm down: Keep in mind to always use gentle and soothing formulas to prevent itchiness and breakouts. Niacinamide and licorice extracts can help you fade blotchiness. You may also look for a moisturizer with a calming ingredients like aloe, Vitamin E or cucumber.

Never skip SPF: To prevent redness and inflammation, be diligent about SPF. Wear a sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are great options too.

Choose creamy formulas: Instead of using a peel pad in exfoliating, opt for a non-abrasive, creamy exfoliator that will not be harsh on your skin. Make sure to apply a cooling moisturizer after exfoliation.

Rub an ice cube all over your face for a few seconds and chase it with a several drops of facial oil for a quick brightening effect.

If you have dry skin:
Having rough skin texture may be your biggest frustration as your skin always lack moisture. Your skin may even look cracked or flaky especially during colder months. Its time to give your dry skin the relief it craves.

Ditch your old cleanser: Switch to a hydrating cleanser with a creamy formula that will easily take away grime and impurities without stripping your skins essential moisture.

Make it sweeter: If you are into using microbead exfoliants, they may get rid of flakes temporarily but they will only make your skin drier in the long run. Swap your grainy exfoliator to a sugar scrub that can help you deal with flaky spots on a weekly basis without causing dryness.
Layer up: Quench your skins thirst by applying a double duty moisturizer from time to time for a maximum hydration. If you want a lighter one, use a tinted moisturizer instead.

Skip the hot shower and take an oatmeal bath instead. Oatmeal has been popular in treating the skin for its cleansing, moisturizing and antioxidative properties.

If you have oily skin:
Skin that shines too much is not healthy. If you always deal with greasiness then your skin is obviously considered oily. Whats worse is that you may also often experience acne due to excess sebum. This is the main culprit why your daily makeup melts and get ruined easily. End this oily dilemma with the right regimen.

Keep your moist:
Opt for a gel moisturizer, the one with a water-based formula to keep your skin hydrated without adding surface shine.

Ace your base: Before you apply your foundation, be sure to have your prime time first. Look and use a mattifying primer with light diffusers and brightening botanicals to keep your facial skin poreless.

Get a boost: Getting a shine-free face doesnt mean that you will also lose some glow. If you want a less shine and more glowing complexion, swipe on a salicylic peel at least once a week.

Cut an aloe leaf in half and squeeze out the gel. Apply it evenly on your face until it dries then rinse off with cool water. Aloe vera is a perfect moisturizer and it can even reduce acne without clogging the pores.
