Toner Talk

Most people choose to skip toners. If youre one of them, you may be missing out on its multiple benefits. Toners remove deeper-embedded dirt and residues left behind by your cleanser. Theyre also full of potent vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals that refresh and awaken your skin. Keep reading to find the best toners for your skin type.

How have toners evolved over time?

Toners used to be used to balance the pH of your skin and to remove the leftover dirt that your cleanser couldnt remove. Now, toners have stepped up their game. They are hydrating and packed with vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals to soothe, treat, and refresh your skin!

Who should be using a toner?

There is an ideal toner for every skin type, you just have to find the perfect one based on your concerns. Toners that contain alcohol remove excess oil from the skin and can  prevent breakouts for those with acne-prone skin, but these will be irritating to sensitive or dry skin types. Toners with hyaluronic acid or glycerin help to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness.

What should I look for in a facial toner?

Some of our favourite toners have ingredients such as Vitamin C. Its an effective brightening agent that helps improve dull skin and give your skin a natural glow. Also look for toners packed with vitamins such as CoQ-10. This boosts collagen production and protects against unwanted wrinkles and premature aging.

Should I still use a moisturizer if I am using a Toner?

A toner isn't a replacement for your daily moisturizer. Some people with very oily skin can sometimes get away with skipping moisturizer in the summer if they are using a toner. But for most people should continue using a daily moisturizer after toning, and never forget the sunscreen!

Tips and Tricks:

  • You can apply toner with a cotton ball, by spraying it on your face, or by pressing it into your skin with the palms of your hands.
  • Read the ingredients. If there's a high alcohol content, then it's most likely an astringent made for oily skin types.
  • Water mists are great toners and are also perfect for setting makeup.

Best for: Sensitive Skin

Those with sensitive skin typically shy away from toners because of their astringent, drying reputation. After all, the last thing sensitive skin needs are irritants that make it even redder! But the right toner for sensitive skin can make a world of difference: You'll see less redness and your skin will feel soothed and comfortable.
